Welcome to the platform of the Sociolinguistics of Scriptality (SoS) research group!
The SoS group consists of researchers interested in sociolinguistic issues of scriptality, writing, and materiality. Our interests cover topics such as
- Graphic variation
- Visual semiotics
- Typographic landscaping
- Spelling and writing system alternation
The group was set up in 2013 in Gothenburg at the occasion of a symposium on Typographic Landscaping, organized by Johan Järlehed. We met again at the 20th Sociolinguistics Symposium, where Johan Järlehed and Mairead Moriarty chaired a panel on Typographic Landscaping. Further activities are planned.
We are an open group and invite everybody who is interested (linguist or not) to join us!
